Samsonite Winfield 2 Luggage Review

I’m in Love with the Look and Function of this Set!

Alright, you want a great set for your frequent travels; you want to stop fussing around when things get lost in the bottom of your case. Want to secure your belongings with a reliable locking system? Tired of bumps, cracks, and scrapes on your old hardcase luggage but not ready to compromise the safety of your electronics by switching over to a softcase set? I’m happy to report that the Samsonite Winfield 2 Fashion Hardside set has you covered. And best of all, its featherweight polycarbonate construction lets you pack it even fuller without a worry of going over weight limits.

Love the Lock

One of my favorite things about Samsonite suitcases is the locking system they use. Instead of asking you to rely on some teeny tiny, break-it-with-my-bare-hands lock you always lose the key to, they put this fancy but easy-to-use combination lock on every piece of luggage.

When you want in, just enter your combination and it’ll pop open. When airport security needs to, they can use their special universal key to pop the lock open so you never need to give out your combination.

Love the Look, Too

I guess you either love the look of these unique cases or you hate them. I’m not sure how anyone could hate them, though – I absolutely love them. The contoured appearance and interesting angles (No, these are not just rectangular. Look closer) come together nicely with the shimmering colors to create what almost look like space pods of traveling wonder.

I love the brushed colored-steel appearance of these cases, but I realize that there’s a little more to it than this. In deciding the finish on these cases Samsonite had a brilliant idea. I imagine it went something like this: “People hate when their hard-cased luggage gets all scratched up when they travel. Hmm… How to fix it… Ah ha! We’ll incorporate brush strokes into the pattern so that scratches just blend in!”

Maybe it didn’t go quite like that, but the idea remains the same. It doesn’t matter if you get that airport employee who’s having an extraordinarily bad day and throwing around your luggage – the scratches will just blend in with the overall look of these cases.

Seriously Made to Take a Beating

Whether that airport worker is having a bad day or it’s just a busy day in the luggage movement area, chances are that your luggage will see more than just a few scrapes along the way. Part of the reason people moved from hardcase luggage to softcase luggage in decades past was that their hardcased luggage wasn’t just getting scratched, but also cracked. The old plastics used in creating hardcase luggage were apt to crack and bust right open if hit hard enough with anything sharp-cornered.

Now that I’ve put that fear in your mind, take it right back out. The polycarbonate these are made from will withstand significant bumps and bangs without breaking. In fact, it’ll bend and bounce right back to its original shape. As an added bonus, this polycarbonate material is very lightweight, which means that you’ll hardly have to consider the actual weight of most of these pieces when packing for air travel.

Storage Galore!

OK, we all know that most suitcases have some sort of storage system inside that helps you keep organized, but I’ve hardly come across anything as cool as this. For starters, it has two different sides for storing your clothes and shoes. Maybe you use one side for clothes and one for shoes; maybe you use one side for clean clothes and the other for dirty clothes.

My favorite thing is that each of these sides is divided with a special zippered divider that actually helps you stay even more organized. It separates the two sides effectively, allowing you to keep clean and dirty clothes in the same suitcase without any co-mingling of scents. It also has multiple zippered pouches and pockets built into it that you can use for storing smaller items like money, passports, notebooks, toiletries, and cell phone chargers. No more rooting around in the bottom of your suitcase for those loose items!

Take it Home and Around the Globe

Alright, if you’re as impressed as I am, jump on over to Amazon to check out this full three-piece set. Of course, if you want to go with just one or two pieces or some strange combination that is different from this three-piece set, you can also choose to grab up only the small 20-inch carry on, just the 24-inch case, or even just the 28-inch case. Buying one at a time allows you to get as many of each size as you want and not have to fuss around with sizes you really don’t need.
